Both ice and porcelain have an air of fragilty that belies hidden strength. Ice can crack rocks, garden pots and containers in the freezer - due to it's expansive nature. On the Ings by my pottery, farmers dig deep dykes that flood in the winter. Repeated freeze/thaw conditions and the receding waters create delicate shelves of ice , suspended in thin air with puckered and crinkled edges. Here I've tried to replicate these fragile patterns by pinching and thinning the porcelain. Using opaque white glaze highlights whiteness and smoothness. A touch of copper oxide deep in the crevices gives a subtle hint of turquoise.
